1. Inspect the boxes and layout
Confirm that the boxes are secure, square enough to accept new doors and worth keeping. Refacing does not solve water damage, broken cabinet construction or a layout that no longer meets your needs.
2. Measure and label the existing fronts
Measure every door and drawer front to the nearest 1/16 inch. Record width × height, quantity, location and hinge side. Take wide photos before removing anything.
3. Choose the new profile and material option
Select one door style for the kitchen unless the design intentionally calls for a second profile. Raw HDF gives you complete preparation control. Primed doors reduce preparation time but still require final paint.
4. Prepare the cabinet frames
Clean, repair, sand and prime the exposed boxes using products compatible with your final coating. The new fronts and old boxes must receive a coordinated finish for the kitchen to look intentional.
5. Install one reference door first
Install and align one door before drilling or hanging the entire kitchen. Check overlays, center gaps and reveals, then work outward while making small hinge adjustments.
