Installing Replacement Cabinet Doors

Before the doors arrive

• Confirm every opening and existing door has a location label.
• Choose or confirm the hinges and mounting plates.
• Gather a drill, bits, driver, level, straightedge, tape and shims.
• Allow primed doors to receive the final paint system and cure fully before installation.

1. Organize the order

Match each door and drawer front to the list. Keep pairs together and check hinge-side labels before drilling or mounting hardware.

2. Install hinges on the doors

For pre-bored concealed hinges, seat the hinge cups carefully and tighten screws without stripping the material. For undrilled doors, use a proper boring jig and follow the hardware manufacturer’s dimensions.

3. Start with one reference door

Install a central or highly visible door first. Set its height and overlay, then use it as the reference for adjacent doors.

4. Adjust gaps and alignment

Most concealed hinges allow side-to-side, in-and-out and vertical adjustment. Make small changes, close the doors and check the reveal after each adjustment.

5. Install drawer fronts

Use temporary alignment screws or double-sided positioning tape where appropriate, then secure the front from inside the drawer box. Check horizontal alignment across the entire bank of drawers.

6. Add pulls and knobs

Use a drilling template so hardware locations remain consistent. Drill from the finished face with backing support as recommended for your material and hardware.
