When replacement doors make sense
Replacement doors are a strong option when the cabinet boxes are structurally sound but the visible style is dated, damaged or no longer fits the room. Doors and drawer fronts create most of the cabinet’s visual impact, so changing them can dramatically update a kitchen without replacing the boxes.
What replacement doors do not fix
New doors will not correct failing cabinet boxes, severe water damage, poor cabinet layout, loose wall mounting or major structural problems. Address those issues before ordering custom doors.
Choose a door profile
Shaker profiles are versatile and easy to pair with many homes. Slim Shaker and slab doors lean more modern. Raised, arched and ogee profiles create a traditional appearance. When matching existing doors, send photos rather than relying on a style name alone.
Measure and label everything
The safest method is often to measure existing doors that already fit correctly. Record width first, height second, and label every door and drawer front by location.
Decide between raw and primed
Raw HDF gives a professional finisher full control over sealing and priming. Primed doors save preparation time and are ready for the final paint system. Neither option includes a final paint color.
Confirm the hinge plan
Choose whether to reuse existing hinges, order concealed-hinge boring, or have an installer drill the doors. Hinge type and overlay affect the final fit, so settle the hinge plan before manufacturing.
Plan painting and cure time
Paint all faces and edges according to the coating manufacturer’s instructions. Allow adequate cure time before handling, drilling hardware or stacking doors.
Install and adjust
Install one reference door, then align neighboring doors using the hinge adjustments. Check reveals with the doors closed and make small changes.
